On a typical day when I’m not distracted by some of the ridiculous words & spiritless acts of mankind, my head is filled with so many thoughts I do not know where
to start. As I sit here and try and
decide which of these myriads of thoughts to write about, I pause…and write nothing.
I pause and ask God for guidance and
strength to clear the distractions and point me in the right direction. And like He has done 1000’s of times in the
past He answers me, and I know what to say.
There are two dominant themes I’d like to discuss. One is prayer and the other is our place as humans in the hierarchy of spiritual beings. Many people have lost their belief in God because they say…"I prayed and prayed and still bad things happened, He doesn’t listen, doesn’t care and so I will just do this on my own". I have heard that many times, and every time I do I have to ask the person if they always give up so easily, do you think others are here to do your dirty work for you and my favorite is this…people have been praying for the Second Coming of Christ since His crucifixion over 2000 years ago, you’ve been praying for a resolution to your issue for five days...put that in perspective for a moment when you want to downplay faith, patience, and His unwavering Love for us.
Prayer to me is first a time to thank the Lord for the good in your life, and don’t tell me there isn’t something good in your life. Prayer secondly is asking for forgiveness for your short comings & those of others. Third it is an unselfish action of wishing good fortune and health for others, and fourth (which is the hardest part for many to grasp) it is goal setting. Yes, you heard right, goal setting. If you want something in your life to change or get better say, get a better paying job, it is in your best interest to make a list of things you need to do to accomplish that goal. If your goal is to chase the cancer from your bones, then you research and listen to your doctors and set goals that accomplish anything and everything you can do to aid the goal of being cancer free. Prayer is no different other than you are asking God for direction and subtle intervention in helping you accomplish that goal. And most importantly you must realize that you may very well die of cancer and have the attitude that if so, it was God’s will to bring you back to His Loving Arms for your next spiritual adventure. Obviously, your friends and family will be hurt that you have passed, but if they have faith, they too will know that the ultimate prayer was answered….to be pain free and comforted in the Arms of His Grace.
Some people take prayer for granted…they think they can say
a prayer, lacking faith it will come true and then they forget about it. If that is
your strategy, your dreams will seldom ever come true. Prayer requires effort to not only say it,
but to believe in His Grace, to believe the Holy Spirit and His helpers can set
things in motion to aid you, and to know that if realistic and heart felt,
nothing is impossible with positive attitudes, Faith and God’s Guidance.
The second theological issue I’d like to discuss is where do we as human beings reside in the spiritual hierarchy of a world ordained by God and deceived by satan. The simple answer is think of yourself as Adam and Eve. Can you do it? Can you take yourself to a time and place when all was perfect and peaceful? To realize we are created in God’s image to pursue His Ways. We were created in His image and our challenge is to be as much like Him as possible, knowing we will never reach that pinnacle…but we can try, even in our mortal earth-bound bodies, because our spirit is untethered by the deceptions of this world, if in Faith we live. We are the envy of angels, because we have feelings & choice, just as Adam & Eve. He wanted paradise for them in His wondrous creation, but their feelings & freedom of choice deceived them & they set the course for where we are today. We can return to that place, it’s still wondrous & beautiful…but we need to set spiritual & worldly fruitful goals for ourselves. That is all He has ever asked and wants for you. To set goals and aspirations that are God-like, God-driven and crafted as a fine carpenter, using his Godsmanship to make prayer…a reality.
Prayer is the 1st step to His Promises.
