The Spirit Sense

Timing is everything.  Have you ever had someone say the right thing at the right time to make you feel better?  Have you ever been troubled by something and the answer just seems to appear out of nowhere?  Have you ever been feeling bad and your pet dog or cat just appeared out of nowhere to cuddle up to you?  Have you ever just opened your Bible at random and started reading and the Words held meaning to your current situation?  I am sure we have all experienced these moments, well not all of us, some haven’t even looked at a Bible in years, much less read a bit of it.  But I digress.

Sometimes we see and hear things in our everyday lives that make us pause and take note.  The more observant and open to the world around you…not just the people, but all of nature as well, the more you will see and hear things that help you in this life’s journey.  If you travel in a tunnel, the only thing you’ll see is the road in front of you, the passing cars, and a concrete ceiling that blocks out the natural sky.  You will never know it is raining or sun shiny outside, you will never know if it is day or night…until you leave that tunnel…if you ever get out of it. Tunnels might be cool for a bit, but let’s face it…wouldn’t you rather see the sun shining on a rainy day, then the artificial lights of a man made and covered road?

I have written in the past on our “senses.”  I have explained the sixth sense…that gut feeling…and the seventh sense…that sense of timing.  In those posts I briefly mentioned we have many senses and today I’ll spend a moment on the eighth sense…the spirit sense.

Have you ever met someone and things just clicked between you?  Have you ever been looking for a pet as a companion in life and when you saw that special dog or cat…you knew it was the one?  On the other hand have you ever spent time with someone and in your gut it just felt like a waste of time?  Or maybe you adopted a pet because it was cute, but once you got it home it turned into a demon dog or a catastrophic cat?  These are moments where your “spirit sense” was revealing itself to you.  You clicked with that friend because your spirits share something in common.  You fell in love with that dog or cat, because deep inside there was a bond that was formed long ago…and now realized again.  You felt uneasy with that person because there is not any commonality, or deep inside your spirit just doesn’t mesh with theirs.  Finally, with that pet you may have adopted, you were duped into adopting something that tricked you into believing it was one thing…when in reality it was something entirely different.

These are all examples of your spirit sense trying to tell you something.  You can choose to ignore it and if you do…you will miss out on forming a continued friendship in this life that was born long before you were, or even worse you get stuck with a demon dog or a catastrophic cat.

I am guilty of this myself.  Just yesterday I met someone at the store.  She was very attractive and soft spoken.  She reminded of me someone…but I just couldn’t place it.  Her name was Kaitlyn and I helped her with some door handles, wood putty, coach lights and address numbers for her house.  It was a very busy day at the store and I had a lot to get done.  But customers come first and as I talked more with Kaitlyn I felt more and more like she was someone I’d like to spend more time with and just get to know better…but after I helped with her last item I said my farewells and carried on with my day.  A few minutes later I remembered something I forgot to tell her about the coach lights, but she had already left the store.  I felt a connection with Kaitlyn…but I let my busy day stand in the way of a potential friendship.  But, my gut tells me we’ll meet again and I can tell her what I forgot to mention.

As I sit here in my home studio listening to 95.7 FM’s Saturday morning program “The Deep End” the Spinners song “I’ll Be Around” is playing.  This is another example of a song with a hidden message.  Many may think the lyrics refer to a man promising his love to his woman, but to me it speaks to the faith we have in God…that “whenever you need me, I’ll be around.”   Don’t take my word for it…listen to that song…it’s on You Tube, and listen to it from the perspective of what the Lord may be saying to you…am I right…does it have a hidden message?  I know I’m right, because it does…and faith is reality.

Be in tune with your spirit sense…it will guide you to those that come in and out of your life…some are meant to encourage, uplift, educate and expand your life….others are mere distractions you have to leave behind or you will be stuck in a tunnel of misgivings…instead of a tunnel of love.

A friend asked me the other day…”how do you know when you’re in love?”  I didn’t have a good immediate answer, but I thought about his question for a couple days and when I saw him again I brought up his question and responded in this fashion.  Love between a man and woman, or the love between you and your pet started long ago.  When it is right…you know it.  You have no second thoughts, no trepidations and you seem to be able to think as one.  Often before a word is spoken or a nudge is given, you know what they’re going to say or do.  And as your relationship grows this bond is strengthened and expanded to a point where you really are as one…where a look expresses feeling and a touch communicates compassion.  This is true love and all the other stuff we as humans pile on it only confuses the real gifts true love affords and provides us.

We are born as one; we live our lives in the hope of meeting in this physical world the ones that our spirit has known in the past, be it in a physical or spiritual form.  In this way, although born as one, we become many throughout our lives.  We become many that share in the gifts of love and the faith that we will not die alone.

Our spirit sense tells us that this is just a passing phase in our spirits journey and on any journey you must be observant to your surroundings or you may very well leave behind a valuable tool, or friendship.  You may miss out on meeting your “soul partner,” you may miss out on a loving relationship with a special pet.  On the other hand if you capitalize on these chance meetings of kindred spirits…your life will be enriched for the very reasons we were meant to experience…since we were all first created.

Now I’ll throw you a little curve…life is truly grand when you have used your spirit sense to help guide you to a real loving relationship.  And when you’ve reached a point in your spirits journey where you realize these things and experienced them, then your spirit sense can expand and be a vessel to help others find the spirit that resides inside all of us.  When you have reached a point in your life when your spirit can be used to help others….well sir isn’t that also true love?  Are we not all here together just trying to figure out our own individual journeys? Yes, but don’t ever…ever forget that you are never alone…the answers you seek and the love you desire are within your arm’s length…if in true faith you have.

The spirit sense, to me it is the most important of all our senses, because all our common senses revolve around it…and when coupled with a sense of timing, it is an undeniable and unstoppable force.
