Man Walking...Revised

September 13th, 2023. 8:07 AM

Often I wake, as you do, with a thought in our minds.  We often rush to start our daily routine discounting & forgetting these first early thoughts.

I try to reflect & remember these sleepy eyed memories.  Sometimes they are fresh thoughts & sometimes they are old memories.  This morning I had this message from years ago in my thoughts.

To put a spin on it today…If you know me personally or thru Facebook & this blog, you know I love nature & like to deer hunt.  Not just for pleasure & skill, but for the meals it can provide.  I like to still hunt, in a strategically placed tree stand, 20 feet or so in the air.

It amazes me how if you’re quiet & don’t move around what will walk within your range.  Animals don’t look up…unless they hear or see something move.

People for the most part are the same way.  I live in an elevated building, top floor with an outdoor balcony.  Hardly ever do people look up as they walk their dogs & carry out their day.  I look up quite often, even from my top floor balcony…because to me…everything on the ground I’ve seen, but the trees, the mountains, the sky…hold the greatest wisdom & mystery to me.

From May, 2008

Today I saw a man walking.
His pace was slow and his head was down.
He seemed to be looking for something
As he occasionally would stoop down for a closer look.

I followed behind and noticed that because he looked down
He neglected the treasure above his head.
We passed under an apple tree, then a fig tree
And neither did he see of their fruit.
What a shame to believe that all you need
Can be found on the street and not the trees.

So I hurried my pace until I was right behind.
We came to another fruit tree from which I picked.
And then I said, “Hey buddy, how you doing?”
He looked at me rather puzzled and said,
“I’m looking for lost possessions.”
So I said, “Well I can’t help you with that right now,
But this fruit was on the tree behind you,
So if it is food you search here’s some of the Lords’ finest.”

He looked even more puzzled and said,
“Gee thanks, I am a bit hungry.”
And then I said, “From now on as you search,
Look down, look left, look right, look up and then look up again, in this way you’ll see all that you may have around you.”

And as we parted I noticed him
Look down, look left, look right, look up, then look up again.
And much fruit he collected
And was nourished forever more.

All you need can be found…you just have to want to find it…& often it may not be right in front of you…but just ahead & above you.

I try not to look down….I’ve been there before.
I try to look ahead & not what might have been.
I try to look up, cuz that’s where Faith resides.
