My Navajo Friend

Does the fire still burn bright
Of your dreams you hold tight?

We raced with the wind
Our horses thundering beats send

Sharing the hunt, you in the lead
Our quarries blood does yet bleed

Are you still there my Navajo friend?
Can we still share my Navajo friend?

To you and you alone I have testified
I will always remember how two men cried.

We’ve shared dark secrets
Over camp fires and crickets

And in the end I know
You always were my Navajo friend

Are you still there…
Does your heart still have a care?

When at my lowest you were there
And at my highest you stood clear

Of a better life, or one distant
Haunts us this day constant

Your spirit soars as does mine
At times an eagle lost in time

Show me more of your magic
Of natures glory sometimes tragic

I long for the day we can ride again
Thru fields of clover and a misty rain

A simpler way lies ahead
I hope you’re there with me

With dressings on our heads
For all to see, my Navajo friend and me.
