The World Today

Originally written 17 years ago...this still holds sadly true today. Actually it is even more relavent now than then. Do not be ignorant to the evil around you...it is all part of the darker side of this world to bring us down and claim our good fortune for their own. God's Graces to you always.

The World Today...

We live in a world today where being lucky is living another day
Whereas luck used to be winning at the horse track.

What is acceptable as a wrong used to be a mortal sin.

We’ve taken so much for granted, that what used to be dramatic
Is now trivial

Fate has a way of catching all of us, and unless the chasm of difference is closed
We will further decline into a nation of separatists,
Instead of a nation as one.

I hope for a day when we can share as a common people
Where there is poor and rich
But also understanding and helping

We can never all be equal
But we can treat each other as equals.
There will always be big and small, young and old
Strong and weak, black and white.
But there has yet to be a shade of togetherness.

Today we are separated by the slurs of the past
And the ignorance to be indifferent.

We all know the headlines, but they blend together with one tragedy after another.
To a point where we are numb to the overall effects of this blitzkrieg of horror
Played over and over again and again all around us.
Soon it will be so far in us there will be no cleansing it out.

We must see a new light and start on the path of correcting our society.
From the meanest darkest streets, to the shiniest new country club.

It is easier to climb a mountain and look down
Than to dig under and look up.
Far easier to see heaven, than to perceive hell.

One way to start this cleansing, a way to take the first step
In purifying the heart and mind is to step back
Take some time and enjoy a piece of nature

For at least two hours breath the fresh air and sense what it was like
Before we were corrupted into believing
All the madness around us is normal.

Strange how a world today with all the beauties and love of heaven
Has all the ugliness and hate of hell.
It is ours to make, the world today, this heaven or hell.
